Reminders When Getting a Car Loan in Japan as a Foreigner

- It is possible for foreigners to get a car loan. However, it’s important to understand that conditions apply; in some cases, it might be difficult for foreigners to secure a loan depending on the situation of their residence status and/or income.
- It is easier to take out a loan with Permanent Residency (Eijūken・永住権). For foreigners without Permanent Residency, they should prepare documents which will prove that there will be no problems regarding the length of their stay in Japan or repayment of the loan. These documents will be reviewed upon submission.
- Please remember that it is important to maintain a good credit history in order to be able to make use of a loan. Take care not to delay paying off a credit card or loan repayments.
