Mount Pleasant and Okay Celebrate 60 Years of Their Sister City Partnership in Michigan

From June 25 to 29, a four-member official delegation from Okaya City, including the Vice Mayor and Chairperson of the City Council, visited Mount Pleasant, Michigan, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the sister city partnership between the two cities.

Okaya City and Mount Pleasant established their sister city relationship in 1965. Over the past 60 years, the two cities have developed a lasting friendship through student exchanges, cultural programs, official visits, and many other opportunities for exchange and mutual understanding. Following Mount Pleasant’s visit to Okaya City last year, this year’s visit was held as a return visit and to celebrate this important milestone together.

During our stay, we received an incredibly warm welcome from the City of Mount Pleasant and the International Relations Committee (IRC). We had the opportunity to reflect on the long history of friendship between our communities, while also discussing opportunities for further exchange and cooperation in the future.

As part of the 60th anniversary celebrations, the two cities exchanged commemorative gifts, symbolizing the friendship and strong bonds that have been built over six decades.

Although our visit lasted only five days, it was a truly memorable experience. We were able to connect with people on a personal level and experience the warmth and hospitality that have made this sister city relationship so special.

We are deeply grateful to the City of Mount Pleasant and the IRC for their outstanding hospitality and friendship. As we celebrate 60 years of partnership, we look forward to strengthening our ties and passing this friendship on to future generations.
