Regarding Mid-to-Long Term Residents Updating Their Bank Account Information

This is a notice for all mid-to-long term residents: if your address, period of stay, status of residence, place of work, etc., has changed since you first arrived in Japan, please inform the bank with whom you have opened an account with as quickly as possible. There is a chance that some problems may occur if you do not promptly inform your bank of any updated information. Specifically, if the period of stay stated on a residence card expires without being renewed, some financial institutions may impose restrictions on the account holder’s use of Internet banking services and cash cards.

Furthermore, it is strictly against the law in Japan to transfer or sell bank cards or bankbooks (tsūchō) to other people. Please do NOT engage in this behavior.
